A letter to the People of Lebanon

I owe you an apology. You've proved me wrong.

I had no faith in you. You must admit, history was not on your side.

I thought you would crack under fire. Israel thought so too, it was banking on it. It based its whole war on this premise. How could they not think so, any observer of Lebanon's never ending internal friction could see how feebly tied together this society was.

I saw you a month ago creating divisions on top of divisions just so you can further taunt each other. You have used every shade in the color spectrum to differentiate yourselves from your neighbors, cousins, and brothers.

I was doubting the concept of Lebanon. I was afraid it will become just another history lesson of failed sociological experiments.

Lebanon will not be a failed experiment because of you, mighty people of Lebanon. Your will will never be bent, your Country will forever be respected, because of you. An army of 4 million hardened unique soldiers cannot be defeated.

I don't know what it is that holds all of you freaks together, but it is damn special.

I was wrong about you.

Please accept my apologies.

Now Nasrallah an Iranian and Syrian agent will cry Victory
He destroyed half of Lebanon got at least 1000 Lebanese killed. Not counting his crazed adepts. Here is a partial list:
List of 180 dead Hezbollah terrorists released of an estimated 530 killed
since start of fighting

Over the last two days the IDF dropped leaflets over Lebanon containing
lists of Hezbollah terrorists killed in fighting with IDF forces. The lists
contain the names of 180 terrorists killed and whose identities were
verified by IDF forces. (The IDF holds the names of additional Hezbollah
terrorists whose deaths also have been confirmed.)

According to IDF estimates, over 530 Hezbollah terrorists have been killed
since the start of the fighting.

The IDF has also broadcast the lists of these names to the Lebanese public,
intermittently breaking into Hezbollah broadcasts on "Al Manar" television
and "Nur" radio station.

The leaflet with the list of the 180 names of the Hezbollah dead terrorists
(in Arabic) read:

"Nasrallah is lying to you, hiding the heavy losses in Hezbollah's ranks.
Below is a partial list of names, denied by Nasrallah, of those killed by
IDF forces:"

Considering that historically, Israel , defeated numerous times ,larger Arab armies in few days, may be this ceasefire looks bad for Israel. But if HEZ and Lebanon expected to get away with this aggression with no repercussions it was a huge miscalculation on your side. Since last humiliating military disaster , when Arabs tried to fight Israel face to face , army to army ,no Arab army tried to fight Israeli army ever since . So Arabs invented another tactic: terrorists sneak attacks, hiding behind civilians. And it works ( so far). But still I do not see what you can celebrate. Nobody is answering my direct questions because you have nothing to tell. But it is so pathetic:
You proved that your army are cowards, your government is powerless at best and your territory used by IRAN and Syria as a battlefield without your permission. Those facts are revealed by the war. So, knowing that you have no army , have no government and do not have a control on your territory what do you do? You are celebrating. I asked you guys once, and I will ask you again: if you think it is a victory, would you like to be victorious like this every other year?
If this is a victory for you, what would be a defeat?

We know that even though we've had traitors trying to control us and beat us down for years, there is still among us the will to unite and persevere. We have learned that nothing can break us, and we will never be manipulated by fear or death to submit to israel or the US, and no one will dictate to us how we choose to live our own lives.

As for "fearless" I say, if you are so fearless, you should have a more public profile.

and finally, to "al" I say, yes we, as lebanese, dont mind be victorious like this every other year. and yes this is a victory, as much as people like you hate it or maybe dont understand it. as for defeat, that is something that we dont know so far (despite the destruction, and by the way, my house was hit!!) and thats something that no one can take away from us.

Beautiful!!! In other words, now you know that you have government of traitors and army of clowns and it made you very strong in your spirit.

WE HAVE LEARNED THAT NOTHING CAN BREAK US,
Really ? Look at Beirut and your country after your adventure with the kidnapping . Are you ready to undertake another aggression against Israel any time soon?

AND WE WILL NEVER BE MANIPULATED BY FEAR OR DEATH TO SUBMIT TO ISRAEL OR THE US,
Right. You cannot be manipulated by USA and Israel because you are busy being manipulated by Syria and Iran
AND NO ONE WILL DICTATE TO US HOW WE CHOOSE TO LIVE OUR OWN LIVES.
Really ? Correct me if I am wrong, neither Syria nor Iran nor HEZ did bother to ask your permission to inflict that war on you, did they? You are nothing for them, they even do not bother to dictate, they just do want they think is better for them, ignoring you. You know what ? May be they are right. I had a huge sympathy for Lebanese when this started but if you after all what happened with you still think that nobody manipulates you , sorry you deserve what you got.
By the way you did not answer my question : if you think it is a victory, would you like to be victorious like this every other year?

Could you explain me what HEZ did to protect Lebanon? Government can do nothing? of course its not even 1 year old.

let me say something for you Mr al, or sissy Al might look better on you :).
the army of clowns as you say it is is highly respected by the lebaneses now, even that it can do nothing against terrorists like your country. Unlike in israel where the Army that cannot be defeated were fucked really good up its sissy pussy by a low tech resistance not even 1/8 the amount of soldiers of israel that were inside lebanon. On top of that they were running like rats.
You look at beirut and you wonder if we would do that again. Its stone and it can be rebuilt, and the people who are dead are martyrs and will be remembered forever, but our pride is higher than ever, unlike the israelies that are losing faith in their army, go look at hazareeth newspaper and you will see what they are saying.
The isralies lost faith in Olmert( probably will be kicked out too)...
ah just checked you are an american, go back to your burgers and your reality shows (how clean is your house) and leave the blog for us you sissy.
you talk from so far, counting on your stupid zionist media and you think you know everything. Go educate yourself with some european news to know what is really happening.

Snif.Mami why arabs always kill israelies, israelies are always good, they only kill 10 children its not like they are killing a 100, why arabs are killing them. snif.
Anyway enough of sarcasm...

PS: sorry for all the good lebaneses in here for the few bad words that are in here.

First sign of opponent running out of thoughts is when opponent uses insults instead of thoughts. You have nothing to answer and therefore you are getting rude.
Can you tell me what Lebanese army did during the war?
Nothing. You have an army which was not around during the war and you are satisfied with that. I have no problem with that: it is up to you, it is your army and your country and your destiny.
Olmert will be gone and for good, instead of olmert other will come and you will never again see Israeli politicians who hesitate to attack. Why are you so glad that olmert will be gone? It was a government who returned lands and wanted to return more. Party is over. It became clear that Israel cannot negotiate. So I would say olmert was your last hope. And you are right about that , he is gone.
French resistance?
1. It never had a goal to eliminate Germany as a state and eliminate Germans as a nation.
2. It never inventively targeted German civilians.
3. French were occupied by Germans and Lebanon was not on the moment war started.

If you read my posting I never said that Israel is right what I was saying that Lebanon has to share responsibilities for what has happened,
Thinking Lebanese understand reality of this horrific events.
Read serious Lebanese blogs
What they write:
“I was right in my basic understanding of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel:

1. Israel has the ability to flatten Lebanon and kill everyone in it

2. Hezbollah can cause a few fires, kill a few people. They can inflict little long-term damage on Israel. They can't put a dent in the IDF or Israeli infrastructure. They can't defend Lebanon from the IDF. Lebanon will be destroyed, while Israel is barely scratched.’
http://lebop.blogspot.com/
LEBANESE POLITICAL JOURNAL.
This is what Lebanese are thinking those who capable to think . I am trying to find somebody to talk to in this blog and all I see is dirty words instead of thoughts. You have nothing to contribute in the dialog, so I will leave you alone with your illusions.

Kodder said...

Al you crack me up... did I start the insults or you did?
check your posts. when you insult me country its personal, when you insult my army its personal.
when you insult like an idiot you will be isulted, and never challenge a lebanese with an insulting "contest"

and about the lebanese political journal I bet you read the article that was posted by cedar-guaridan, and let me tell you that I know at least one person that I know on the same blog that doesn't agree with that. if he wants to talk (he checks this blog).
and then since when one blog generalise what the lebanese are saying? jamal's blog is here and he is lebanese why didn't take him into account. go get me newspapers articles that support that.

and about the ability to flatten lebanon, 1.. israelies arent stupid all the time. they already have most of the countries against them, they will not do anything stupid even more.
and even if they flatten lebanon, that will only make lebaneses people stronger and make us want to kick its ass.

and why you only see what hezbollah is doing? didnt you see enough what israel did? oh I bet you didn't it wasnt on American TV I bet.
more than a 1000 dead 30% children, weapons that are banned, they dump oil on lebanese beaches that will need 10 years to get cleaned , those you don't see? how about

When you want lebanese to talk as you claim you don't start by insulting our army, eh fucker?
go choke on a burger.

Kodder said...

oh forgot to reply on the french resistance part.

1)israel still occupies part of lebanon.
2)hezbollah attacked an army convoy, perfectly legal if part of lebanon still occupied... israel replied by bombing civilians then hezbollah started bombing the cities. so if you want to blame someone blame israel for starting the war. Not forgetting that israel crossed the blue line thousands of time either by air or small groups of soldiers since year 2000.
all those allow to attack israel thank you very much.

al said...

I never insulted anyone personally on this blog as you do . I said that your army are cowards and I proved it. You still did not answer my question, “why your army did not fight” ? if you are considering admitting of truth as an insult it is up to you. But I am not alone who is thinking that you army is bunch of cowards and you should be ashamed of it .
Read this article in Spiegel. Beirut's So-Called army http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,431389,00.html
AND WHY YOU ONLY SEE WHAT HEZBOLLAH IS DOING? DIDNT YOU SEE ENOUGH WHAT ISRAEL DID?
Once again, I did not said Israel was right , what I said is that you are wrong as well. And you are sharing responsibilities
I KNOW AT LEAST ONE PERSON THAT I KNOW ON THE SAME BLOG THAT DOESN'T AGREE WITH THAT.
Not agreeing is just fine with me I am looking for those who do not agree with me because I do not see any benefits form talking with those only who agree with me, this why I came to this blog. What I see from you is a sign of weakness : personal insults instead of argument and inability to answer simple questions substituting it with profanity. See me in Lebanese political journal and enjoy your environment on this blog it does not deserve my valuable time.

such a twisted way of thinking! i don't think anyone will be able to break that with just few generations to come, might take much longer for them, maybe when they grasp the idea of defeat, then they might actually acquire a sense of humility. on the one hand they have been raised to worship themselves and Israel, and everything done for the sake of Israel is accepted. but the end does not always justify the means. they are people drained of emotions. they are people who make plans to gain absolute power, which is most dangerous in the hands of those who believe they own the world, and that a jew is higher in rank than the rest of us. only fits the description of nazi thinking. all religions preach peace, including judaism, but they have misunderstood their own religion for being the chosen few to rule above all others. i do not blame jews, i just blame Israelis and supporters of Israel, for i strongly believe in judaism as a message from the one and only God that we all worship. i am glad we got to see jewish communities demonstrating against the aggression on lebanon, who are not and will never be supporters nor conspirators of murders.
and to answer a question posted 4 us Lebanese..we will be ready and willing to fight 4 our rights any time, if you are able to listen to those people whose houses have been totally destroyed and who have lost their families in this war, they stand up and say we are all for the resistance. listen to them, for they are the great ones, not people who occupy lands, kill civilians and deny others' right to exist.
hilarious story i heard today about Israelis coming back from south Lebanon..those soldiers were describing the war as being hysterical! they would shoot at Hizbullah resistence men, saying the injured men rise again and come out with no heads on their shoulders, still carrying their guns, shooting back.:)

Hi all,

I just want to urge you all, especially the Lebanese, because I am Lebanese, to pause for a second and think about things. Did you listen to Nasralla today? His "victory" speech was inflammatory, he is trying to send warnings (threats?) to Lebanese politicians. He reminded the Lebanese politicians that they are dealing with winners not losers, meaning that they are going to capitalize politically on their "victory". People, pride is not only in a militia surviving an onslaught. There is pride in having a fully functional state- a state with sovereignty on its land, all of it. There is pride in not being lackies for Syria and Iran. Already the Syrians are hailing HA and branding everyone else as traitors. If your vision of Lebanon is a state controlled by regimes like Syria and Iran, then by all means proceed on the same path. Push for democracy, push for HA having a strong political wing, but do not support them as an armed group. Just pause for a second, take a deep breath and think about things. I implore you. What will this "victorious" Lebanon look like? How will life be in it ?

vrai14mars said...

The people smiling over the rubble of their homes were indeed great. The fighters who fought so well against the israeli military monster were also great.

But Nasrallah who, prior to July 12, had claimed that his weapons served his strategic goal of "equilibrium of terror" failed completely since his vaunted equilibrium turned into unqualified disaster.

If he claims that the israelis lost because they were not able to achieve their stated goals, he failed miserably because his own stated goal of dissuasion (and thus security) through missiles proved a sham against a super equipped army bent on ruthlessness.

Truth is everybody lost: The Hezbollah and Tsahal because they didn't meet their stated goals, the israeli people because they spent a month of relative hell and most importantly the lebanese because they got destroyed.

The Israeli people will probably take Olmert to account but what I find mind-boggling is that the Lebanese (mostly Shias) applaud Hezbollah and Nasrallah who wants to keep his weapons for more brilliant action in the future!

I must have missed something.

What is particularly revolting is that in his speech tonight, he claimed that lebanese negotiators had come back neither with the Shebaa Farms nor with the Lebanese prisoners and that they therefore had no right to ask him to disarm.

But Mr.Hassan, they got an impossibly good deal that put a break (hopefully solid) on the full destruction of Lebanon. Is that so bad?

This Nasrallah guy is a decidedly low character and the worst possible means of toppling Lebanon's failed and corrupt political class. After all, wasn't he himself part and parcel of the Syrian system of abuse (mostly against his Shia constituency) and looting (telecommunications, electricity ...)?

Why would anybody with half a brain believe that he is a true resistant since he never fought the syrians choosing instead to keep a hostile stance against the israelis even after they had left contrary to his will?

How can he still claim that the May 17 1983 Accord between Lebanon and Israel was such a bad one for Lebanon given all what came afterwards?

The big disease of Lebanon and the Lebanese are official lies and Hezbollah is currently producing them with industrial efficiency.

Maybe you have missed the fact that Israel is the one who initiated the full-scale destruction of Lebanon. Hizballah was there to face their army on the ground. I don't know what was in store for Lebanon, but you have to admit that Hizballah foiled a plan of some sort.

"But Mr.Hassan, they got an impossibly good deal that put a break (hopefully solid) on the full destruction of Lebanon. Is that so bad?"

I don't know. I'd stay focused on the source that brought on the destruction of Lebanon. Don't fall into the trap and accept the premise that it was Hizballah who was responsible for those F-16s and the bombs dropped on civilians and the destruction of roads and bridges. If this "break" was not in Israel's favor after its losses on the ground, I would not think for one minute that those negotiators would have been able to get anything for Lebanon. They could not even get anyone to condemn Israel for its war crimes.

Jamal and friends,
I find it disturbing and depressing you find the time to be proud of your country. Hundreds of lebanese and israelis died in this terrible month. Nothing to be proud about. Also - what were the alternatives for the lebanese people that you compliment them so much ? They had no power to stop the hizbullah or israeli aggression. They just waited praying their country is not lost forever. Lebanon is a democracy that has no power over all its land. Your vote is not worth a lot. These are sad times when every person in this region must think about what went wrong here. This is no time to be proud. May this cease fire hold and peace prevail.

But do you understand that Israel had showed (again) its hand in Gaza a few days earlier after the kidnapping of one soldier and that Texas-Old-Em Nasrallah, by killing three soldiers and kidnapping two on the other side of the UN-recognized blue line nevertheless invited them to a poker game in Lebanon using the Lebanese people and economy as his chips? I agree that Nasrallah and the Hezb might be doing good for some Lebanese in the short run. But be assured that their long-term plans are not centered around keeping Lebanon "Lebanese" in the way we know it.

"al" the izraeili asks: what constitutes a victory vs. what constitutes a defeat for the lebanese people? why do the lebanese consider themselves victorious? al lives in an isolated "reality" called izrael, which is very similar to the un-reality of the blogosphere. talk is not cheap, talk is free. the only real reality is what is on the ground. the only reality is that izrael will always leave lebanon with its tail between its legs, having achieved none of its aims. listen "al", now me teach you: victory is a state of mind. when a person or a people choose to refuse, they are victorious, even, and especially, under relentless slaughter and destruction by way of the most elite and technologically sophisticated weaponry izrael can dish out; they keep refusing you. all arabs will keep refusing you, not just lebanese. you will continue to live among them and you will continue to be refused. defeat is also a state of mind. israel will always feel defeated because it will never come down from its lofty mental superiority complex to accept the reality of its existance: it exists only on the pretext of expulsion, occupation, and a u.s. sponsored paper-tiger economy. it can only exist by means of the least effective and most superior weaponry, its mighty military, in the midst of a sea of hundreds upon hundreds of supressed arabs and muslims. israelis have long ago thrown themselves into the sea, mentally.

Well written entry. But I think it is too soon to judge. Whenever we are attacked, we always united. The problem is when we are not attacked. i can see as of today the split between the Lebanese is taking place about the cost of the war, the timing, HA's arms etc.
What I am mostly afraid of is for Israel to achieve in time of cease fire what it failed to achieve in time of war: splitting us and makng us fight each other for her. Unfortunately it started showing,... Allah yistour.

What a load of rubbish. Whom are you proud of? The bunch of corrupt unscrupulous thieves that run our life and call themselves government. Of the Syrian agents (Lahoud)? of the Hizbullah collaborators? Of the fact that our lives are run by Iran ( the crazy fanatical Ayatollas) Or by the infantile, vicious eye doctor from Damascus ( I'd rather be an awar than be treated by him).
All the catastrophe could be avoided had the Lebanese army been deployed, before not after.
Proud of whom? of my friends with double nationality that ran away like rats? Of Nasrallah that hid in the Iranian embassy?

Of the shopkeeprs that made money by jacking up the prices. Of the taxi drivers who charged 1000 dollars and up for a ride to Damascus?

Beirut is not Dahiya. To hell with the janub of Beirut, it should have been wiped out!

A bunch of no hopers that have destroyed so many lives, so many dreams of peace and prosperity??

A letter to the people of Lebanon

1. Why are some trying to make a quick buck by hiking the price of cement and glass for windows?

2.Why does a taxi to Damscus cost over $1000

3. This war is not of our making it is of the making of Hizbullah. Bachar and Ahmadinajad.

4. Why is Nasrallah paying with forged dollars?

5. Why is Nasrallah telling the Lebanese army where in the South they can deploy and where not and we ckeep quiet about this offense?

6. Why has Turkey stopped Iranian cargo planes carrying arms and Rockets from crossing it's aispace. The planes landed in Damscus wher Syria intends to smuggle the into Lebanese sovereign territory. Bye bye Lebanese soveregnty.

7. Why is Elias Murr threatening with treason whoever violates the UN declared cease fire. Is Hizbullah impressed by this declaration. Do they fear Elias Murr?

8. Is not smuggling of weapons from Syria a violation of 1701. How long do you think the Israelis will watch and do nothing. Are we to be subject to Falluja 2 so soon?

9. I see on Al Jazeera Hizbullah men exhihbiting their arms in public. And I foolishly believed that only the army and the police can carry arms. Are we going to phase 1 of the conflict. Is this a rerun.

I came here via another Beirut blog because of your family name. I was brought into the world by a Dr. Georges Ghosn at Hôpital St-Joseph in Beirut, who also signed my birth certificate. It's not a name I come across often.

Salut!
