not a single nation has called this by its name: an act of terrorism. the best we get is that the attacks on the infrastructure and civilians are "improper" in the eyes of the EU.jeez, thanks.

Following the terrorist actions of the Hezbollah, which has reached the prospérite of Lebanon, the Israeli army will act in Lebanon for all the duration necessary in order to protect the Israeli people.
For your security and in order to avoid harm to civilian people who are not implied with Hezbollah, avoid being in places in relation to Hezbollah.

It is necessary that you know that the continuation of the terrorist actions against Israel is a double edged blade for you and for Lebanon.

Signed Israel

monoke,
I do not know of anyone who has condoned the Israeli action in Lebanon. People are frustrated because they feel helpless when a private armed group takes it upon itself to unleash the mad genie when it new dam well in advance what kind of a reaction it is unleaching. The Israeli reaction is unacceptable, inhumane, terroristic and cruel but let us noe forget that it has always been within our control to avoid this "bully". No self respecting government in the world has ever renounced its responsibility to protect in favour of a private militia that is NOT under its control. We are paying the price, a very heavy price indeed, for having run a dysfunctional state. If we choose not to act as a sovereign state then maybe we should not be one.

Of course it hurts our pride when we are on the receiving end and we will complain about the Israeli violations of our sovereignty but we have been accomplices in providing Israel with a perfectly acceptable excuse to retaliate because the primary reason for the existence of a government is to provide protection to its people within its borders. It is about time that we learn that violence breeds anoly violence. Don't expect peace when you practice terror. Since we cannot influence the behaviour of others directly we have to concentrate on putting our house in order and that means only one thing. HA has to be disarmed and it must not be a part of the government.

Propaganda with hidden threats of death to all Lebanese

ghassan,

i agree 100% with everything that you said. i already posted my thoughts on my blog. but i was disappointed that yet again not one ocuntry officially stated that "the Israeli reaction is unacceptable, inhumane, terroristic and cruel" as you mentioned.
we're on the same frequency here.

Well said, Ghassan. Hizbullah has done very well for itself by deliberately blurring the distinction between "resistance" and "defense." These are two entirely different entities with entirely different requirements, manifestations, and results. If HA's real value were in "resistance," then they could take their gang of dudes down to the Shebaa and Golan and "resist" until the cows come home. All the while they could leave the "defending" to the Lebanese army and everyone in the Lebanese government would be happy as clams. However, what HA had in mind was actually a land-grab and not a division of labor within the rubric of "defending" anything. HA wants Lebanon, one piece at a time, and they plan to get it under the cover of "defending" Lebanon using less-than-reliable "resistance" methods. Finally, HA must instigate opportunities to "resist" and "defend" by "provoking" Israel. Without adhering to this modus operandi, normal Lebanese will question its whole raison d'etre, and probably want it eliminated. Anyway, were I Lebanese AND normal, that's what I would want.

Unfrozen Caveman Linguist,
Your point about the need of HA to keep creating opportunities to resisit is very well taken. I have often emphasized that specific aspect of both Hamas and HA. In the case of HA in particular, I am of the opinion that HA will never allow itself to be dissolved because its goal of libertion is accomplished. They have a much higher goal and as such the Shebaa farms and border incidents are only means to justify continued rationale for their existense. HA will bide its time by constantly creating a destablizing incident and keep on working towards the greater goal of recreating a Moslem Renaissance. That in itself is acceptable had it not been based on exclusivity and authoritarian ideas.

BTW, I have visited your web page "Bliss Street" and I like te collection of articles that you have. I might even recommend it to some students of mine:-)

First you post something titled "we're all Hezbollah", now you get a leaflet saying "duck motherfuckers." Not a coincidence, dude.

I mean, really. Your country's so small if Ted Kennedy cut a fart in Beirut not one of you would eat that day. You went for decades barely giving a damn that the south was underdeveloped and poor, and now you're in a bind because the south is full of idiots picking a fight with Israel. If you bastards stood for yourselves, not just in the sense of making a stance against Israel but in the sense of acting in each other's best interests in peace time as well as war, you wouldn't be in this mess. You got no excuse. Your country isn't big enough for excuses.

Maybe our country isn't big enough as yours fucking keenedy's dog, but we do have a history & existe a way before your fucking basterd country

The leaflets that the Israelis dropped on the suburbs of Beirut says:

"Out of our concern for your safety, we advise you to not be around any areas where Hezbollah is known to operate."

I'm Lebanese and totally sick of HA running amuck. They had no business attacking Israel and killing / kidnapping soldiers. The Palestinian cause is NOT OURS TO FIGHT! We should be concentrating on our own nation-building.

Although I realise that Israel is unfairly punishing the Lebanese gov't for actions it has little control of, I'm actually glad that Israel is proving that they wouldn't have left our South in 2000 if they didnt want to and as a result of HA's continued arrogance, they could come back. HA have played the heroes, but It's time the nation sees them for what they are: terrorists and henchmen of Syria and Iran. We need to call on the International community to help rid us of this disease.

So, to HA I say khlisna min j'meelitkon, this country owes you nothing, so fuck off already.

today i was introduced to this blog, with very interesting discussions as i see.
i sense that some of our values are getting mixed up. would like to stress that it is our right to fight for our land and get our prisoners back. Israel does not need any excuse to show us how inhumane, illogical, terrorist butchers they can be. Don't forget the equation here: Hizbullah took 2 Israeli soldiers, whether inside the blue line or outside doesn't matter, and they killed 6 soldiers, while as Israel retaliates by killing civilians and bombing most important resources in the country. here Hizbullah cannot be blamed on unleashing the mad dog! their attack was solely directed towards the Israeli army. And for us to get our prisoners back by fighting for them, in my opinion is better strategy than having to negotiate for them, and naturally having to pay a higher price.
i also find it troubling that some of us have lost the sense of revolution that we have inherited from our ancestors. what do we have to depend on instead of our strength and spirit, fighting for injustice? tourism?!

Sorry, but it's sad to read the comments you people leave on these topics - it shows that an end to conflict in your part of the world is nowhere in sight.

The isareli have every right to retaliate against an aggresion from a neighbouring country. The lack of excuses or will to rectify the situation from the Lebanese government just confirms that no other action would be prudent. I can certainly sympathize with the ordinary lebanese civilian, who just want the conflict to go away, but I'm afraid it's time you realize that the actions of your country are your responsibility as well. You have put hizbollah in parliament, just as the palestinians have put hamas in government, and now both your people suffer from your choices... YOUR choices!
